**Travel Diary – David’s Journey to Edinburgh, Scotland**

Today marks the first full day of my trip to Edinburgh, and I can already tell that this city is unlike any other I've visited in the UK. From the moment I stepped off the train at Waverley Station, I was struck by the mix of old and new that defines this beautiful Scottish capital.
The weather was a bit chilly, but the sun peeked through the clouds, casting a golden glow over the historic buildings. I started my day with a walk up the Royal Mile, the main street that runs from the Castle down to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The narrow cobbled streets, with their centuries-old architecture, felt like stepping back in time. I passed by St Giles' Cathedral, which stood proudly against the sky, and I couldn’t help but admire the intricate details of the buildings around me.
I stopped for a traditional Scottish lunch at a cozy pub called The Witchery, located in a medieval building beneath the castle. The food was hearty and delicious—haggis, neeps, and tatties, washed down with a pint of local ale. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the barman even shared a few stories about the history of the place.
In the afternoon, I climbed up to Edinburgh Castle, which sits atop Castle Rock. The view from the top was breathtaking. I could see the entire city spread out below me, with the skyline dominated by the castle and the modern skyscrapers of the New Town. I learned a bit about the history of the castle, including its role in Scottish history and the Crown Jewels of Scotland. It was fascinating to see the Stone of Destiny and the Scottish Crown Jewels up close.
Later, I wandered through the Old Town, where I stumbled upon a street performer playing the bagpipes. The sound filled the air, and for a moment, I felt as if I were in a different era. I also visited the National Museum of Scotland, where I spent an hour exploring the exhibits on Scottish history, culture, and natural history. The museum was both informative and engaging.
As the day came to an end, I sat on the edge of the Water of Leith, watching the sunset over the city. The peacefulness of the moment made me reflect on how much I’ve already enjoyed my time here. Edinburgh has a unique charm that combines history, culture, and a vibrant modern spirit.
I’m looking forward to exploring more of the city tomorrow—maybe a visit to Arthur’s Seat or some shopping in the Grassmarket. For now, I’ll rest and prepare for another exciting day in this incredible city.
