Vancouver had been raining for two straight days, and finally, the rain stopped in the afternoon.
I walked to Sunset Beach with the damp wind brushing against me. The sea and sky, just rinsed clean by the rain, were bathed in the golden-red glow of the setting sun—ripples of light danced on the water, like crushed gemstones, or like the blended color blocks in Monet’s paintings. Every moment felt like a breath of life taken straight from an oil painting.
I strolled slowly along the shore, from Sunset Beach to English Bay, leaving footprints on the still-moist sand. Behind me, the sunset glow gradually faded as the sun dipped lower; ahead of me, the sea slowly brightened under the dimming sky.
